You may remember these popular examples that created significant media buzz. In response, countries around the world are now planning new regulations to curb abuse.

Why it matters: The stakes are high because the increasing volume of deepfakes - be it a video, image or text - will reach a point where people will no longer have a shared reality that is anchored on agreed upon truths.
